Coregas, the largest Australian-owned gases company, has announced today it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Xebec Adsorption Inc. (TSX: XBC) (“Xebec”), a global provider of clean energy solutions, to collaborate on the deployment of hydrogen technologies for the burgeoning hydrogen economy across Australia and New Zealand.
A Wesfarmers company (ASX:WEX), Coregas is a leader in industrial gases with a 40-year history in the generation and distribution of speciality gases, including operating Australia’s largest merchant hydrogen plant supplying customers across sectors. Coregas is actively forwarding the pursuit of hydrogen as an energy source participating in projects aimed at accelerating the energy transition.
The partnership with Xebec’s wholly owned subsidiary, HyGear will see Coregas build upon its strong hydrogen credentials through the deployment of industry leading technology for on-site gas generation. With HyGear’s product portfolio encompassing both electrolysis and steam methane reformer technologies, Coregas and HyGear will leverage their respective expertise to develop and deploy flexible solutions to unlock the potential of hydrogen for the Australian market.
Coregas foresees the development of the hydrogen ecosystem will require both large scale centralised supply and small on-site production. The agreement with Xebec will enable Coregas to extend its hydrogen offering to flexible on-site hydrogen supply options complementing its current footprint of production and storage facilities with a broader hydrogen distribution model tailored to customer requirements.

This announcement builds upon Coregas’ commitment to develop the Australian hydrogen sector with the company increasingly active in projects that advance the clean hydrogen economy, including its participation in the Hydrogen Energy Supply Chain project, and assistance for the hydrogen fuel needs of automotive companies, such as Hyundai Australia.
Coregas is also supporting the development of the Australian biogas sector which presents significant promise for the country’s decarbonisation journey, including as a pathway towards low emission hydrogen generated through the steam methane reforming process.
