Hydrogen is an extremely flammable gas that is lighter than air. This high purity hydrogen is available as a compressed gas or cryogenic liquid in a range of sizes.

Hydrogen 5.0 is inexpensive and abundant compared with Helium 5.0, which has led to it gaining in popularity in laboratories as a carrier gas. However, more safety controls are required when working with this flammable gas, which could add extra costs to the laboratory operation. In cryogenic liquid format, liquid hydrogen is often abbreviated to 'LH2'.
Uses
Hydrogen 5.0 is used:
- as a carrier gas in gas chromatography
- during the production of special metals and semiconductors
- for combustion in flame ionisation detectrion instruments
- as a component in calibration gas mixtures
