MIG shielding gas

MIG shielding gas is a premium gas mixture used mainly for the MIG welding of carbon steel. It is great for clean, quality and economical welds.

Ar / CO2 / O2

MIG shielding gas is specially formulated to give excellent arc stability with very strong welds. The carbon dioxide (CO2) in the mixture improves the shape of the weld bead and the oxygen (O2) reduces the surface tension, allowing the weld bead to spread out. A wide bead reduces stress at the toe of the weld where cracks can occur. Now available in E and D size from selected stores.

Ideal uses:

  • MIG welding of mild steel, stainless steel*, low alloy steel and galvanised steel
  • MIG welding of metal plate, tubing, sheet metal, furniture and automotive
  • Minimal spatter, good weld appearance and good control make it ideal for positional welding
  • Commonly used to weld thicknesses up to 8mm, but note this also depends on the capacity of the welding equipment in use
*Non-critical stainless-steel applications only

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I purchase Trade N Go Gas MIG Gas?

All Trade N Go Gas can be purchased directly from Coregas or from one of our stockist, without the need of having an account.

How should MIG Gas be stored?

In common with other compressed gases, the cylinders in which it is stored may explode if exposed to very high temperatures that cause the gas pressure to rise beyond the level of which the cylinders are designed to handle. Accordingly, welding gas cylinder tanks should be stored upright, in a well-ventilated storage area that is dry and cool.

How long should a tank of MIG Gas last?

In order to calculate how long a tank of welding gas will last, we would need to know the type of gas, the application for which it will be used and the flow rate of the equipment you will be using. We can then let you know exactly how long a specific size of tank should last under normal operating conditions.

What gas should I use for MIG welding

For MIG welding, we offer a couple options depending on your requirements. Our recommendation is our Trade N Go Gas MIG GAS which is a mixture of CO2 and Argon. Pure argon is suitable for aluminium MIG welding but when used with steel, leads to a higher weld build-up and a less controlled arc.
